Yesterday’s post featuring comments from Colorado Attorney General John Suthers about medical marijuana contributing to increased teen pot use (and advocate Mason Tvert’s criticism of his viewpoint) spawned some strong reactions from readers — including one who fears that Suthers’s tactics may hurt the legalization movement.
Brad writes:
There’s no doubt Suther’s convenient interpretation of the study is going to open the floodgates for prohibitionists anxious to take the “pot is dangerous for teens so it should be strictly outlawed” angle. Let’s hope that sensible thought can weather this storm, if not, this kind of b.s. will dominate the media and become popular opinion. If the consensus becomes, “people who are for marijuana reform hate children,” we’re going to lose the fight.
