There are plenty of great restaurants on Colfax Avenue — check out our list of the twelve best as evidence — and then there are the quiet spots that serve the neighborhood day-in and day-out without much fuss or notice. Such was the case with Pete’s Cafe & Steak House, which BusinessDen reports is now closed after 44 years.
The little diner between Pennsylvania and Pearl streets was owned and operated by Pete Gatseos (not Pete Contos, who runs Pete’s Kitchen, Pete’s Gyros Place, Pete’s Satire Lounge and Pete’s Greek Town Cafe on the same street), who has decided to retire. Gatseos’s family also runs a second Pete’s Cafe on Washington Street in Thornton that will remain open.
